Mt Gambier turned out to be one of the most interesting towns I’ve visited in Australia. Check out my blogpost about the town and its geographical features. It’s a great place to spend about days on a South Australia roadtrip. Check out my blogpost about the best things to do in Mount Gambier!

We stayed here at the Old Mount Gambier Gaol. In Australia we spell ‘jail’ as ‘gaol’ (don’t ask, I have no idea why). This used to be a real prison! It was used by a few different companies until the current owners turned it into a hostel / hotel. We first chose this place because of the novelty factor, but overall we enjoyed our stay and the facilities were up there with the best hostels. The owners are very friendly and helpful. The prices are pretty good too. I’ll leave you with some photos of the grounds now.
